This interactive seminar will show the COTA/PTA how to implement creative treatment strategies for neurologically impaired clients. Various treatment approaches will be discussed with a focus on functional rehabilitation. The therapist will learn how to implement treatment plans that are customized to an individual patient rather than applying the same treatment technique for all clients. Motor learning and control theories along with other traditional approaches will be discussed and applied to develop individualized treatment strategies. Appropriate documentation of treatment sessions will be discussed. Demonstration, and hands on practice will prepare the participants with skills which can be utilized immediately in the clinic.

This seminar is for Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapy Assistants, and Recent Occupational and Physical Therapy Graduates

Attendees will:

  • Identify anatomy and physiology related to various neurological conditions.
  • Identify various types of movement disorders related to tone
  • Develop strategies to treat postural control, balance, and movement disorders.
  • Document treatment sessions to promote reimbursement and communication between disciplines.
Speaker Bio: Dakshesh Sanghavi, PT ,was born and raised in Mumbai (Bombay), India. He got his Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy in 1983. He immigrated to the US in 1990 and worked at Color Memorial Hospital and Jamaica Hospital Medical Center as a Physical Therapy supervisor. In 1996 he was promoted to supervise and develop the new Traumatic Brain Injury Unit at Jamaica Hospital. He holds a post-graduate advanced Master’s degree from Long Island University. Currently, he manages the Rehab Departments of both Flushing Hospital Medical Center and Brookdale Medical Center, Dakshesh has been lecturing to academic programs and conducting workshops and seminars for Therapeutic Resources for over eight years.
