Speech Therapy Gets Personal: Articulate Technolgies Launches Social Speech Therapy Platform Online

In an historic move, Articulate Technologies today launched Speech Buddies University (SBU), the first online social speech therapy platform. SBU takes leading therapy techniques and integrates them into easy-to-use lessons for speech and articulation disorders while connecting speech language pathologists (SLPs) with parents and students. And like the best social online platforms, SBU is designed to enhance those connections to meet the needs of SLPs and parents.

Not only will Speech Buddies University help motivated students and parents, but it can also transform the practice of a public school SLP who has 60 students, no budget, and no one-on-one time with her students.

This free platform lets SLPs assign homework, make personalized recommendations, track students' progress and send reminders -- all on a secure, confidential platform. Parents can engage with SLPs and access a comprehensive online course of speech therapy regardless of the child's level. Each lesson focuses on a student's problem sound: beginner exercises revolve around syllables, intermediate exercises involve words, while advanced exercises incorporate words into sentences.

The theory behind these exercises was developed by Chief Scientific Officer Gordy Rogers, M.S., CCC-SLP. The SBU technique mimics the series of exercises that Rogers uses with students in his clinic. "Connecting parents and students with their speech therapist and customizing homework to meet the child's level is the best way to promote carry-over between speech therapy lessons," said Rogers. "Knowing if a student has practiced at home and how he or she has made progress makes my job easier and our lessons more productive."

"Creating personalized speech therapy exercises and connecting online is such a great way for parents to get involved and for students to learn faster," said Adrienne Penake, CFO. "We felt that it could be an effective tool to enhance the speech therapy experience for everyone involved. That's why we created Speech Buddies University. It is important to us that the platform is free so that everyone can participate."

One in every fifteen children has an articulation disorder. That means that 3.1 million kids struggle with the condition each year. To access Speech Buddies University, go to: http://www.speechbuddy.com

The SBU platform was created by Articulate Technolgies, the developer of Speech Buddies, a series of speech therapy tools to help children learn correct and consistent tongue positioning for the five sounds that children most often have difficulty with: R, S, L, CH, and SH.

About Articulate Technologies: Articulate Technologies is committed to improving the lives of people living with speech and communication disorders by providing clinically proven treatment options. Speech Buddies, the company's first product line, are designed to treat articulation disorders, the most common type of speech disorder.
