CMS Issues Proposed Home Health PPS Rule for 2012

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its proposed Home Health Prospective Payment System (PPS) regulation for calendar year 2012. CMS is proposing to update home health PPS rates for home health agencies effective January 1, 2012. The proposal would decrease payments to home health agencies by 3.35% for 2012 and includes structural changes to the home health PPS such as lower payments for high therapy episodes. As a result of advocacy by AOTA and home health member experts, CMS is also proposing changes to clarify that a continuing need for occupational therapy allows for its continued eligibility after it becomes the sole skilled service being provided.

Comments are due September 6, 2011. AOTA is currently analyzing the implications of the Home Health PPS proposed rule and will be drafting comments. Please e-mail them at rrpd@aota.org with your thoughts.
