Rotator cuff surgery was the first step in getting Tom Hegel back on the golf course. The second was rehabbing his newly repaired shoulder.
"I knew it would take time, but I knew in the long run it was worth getting it over with," says Tom Hegel, physical therapy patient.
He doesn't have to go any farther than his Fiddlesticks fitness center. Lee Memorial Health System is now offering on-site physical therapy within communities and country clubs.
"I thought how great was this - I don't have to go over to the hospital; to a rehab center. I can drive my golf cart, come here in two minutes and do my therapy," says Hegel.
"I see in this setting that they're definitely much more compliant. The cancellation/no show rate is almost nil, because they're right here," says Neal Trottier, physical therapist with Lee Memorial Health System.
There's a definite home field advantage, because this is the setting where patients are getting therapy, they can come back and work whenever they want.

Once they're done with their therapy, they can come in here and continue to work. And that again reduces the risk of re-injury. Whether it's a rotator cuff or it's a knee replacement or a back procedure," says Trottier.
It may be close to home, but that doesn't mean the workout is any less vigorous.
"Each time he pushes me a little more. He adds moves for me and he strengthens me. And if I wasn't doing this, I think my arm would just be stiff," says Hegel.
Although it may feel like VIP treatment, on-site therapy can be covered by insurance.
"This was billed the same way if somebody came into a outpatient clinic, an outpatient physical therapy clinic or a occupational therapy clinic and so that's a non issue actually- but a lot of people don't pursue that option because they don't know," says Trottier.
Having his golf course outside the window, keeps Hegel's goal in sight.
"Probably my biggest motivation is to get back. I have a lot of friends here that play golf and yes I want to be back playing golf with them," says Hegel.
