On March 5, Salvador Bondoc, OTD, BCPR, CHT, Professor at Quinnipiac University and Chair of the AOTA's Physical Disabilities Special Interest Section, presented a cutting edge seminar on the application of virtual reality gaming devices as a treatment modality with individuals and groups in long term care/subacute settings.
He demonstrated how the use of these devices improves motivation to participate, increases socialization and application of higher level cognitive skills.elicits balance and dynamic postural adjustments, while improving range of motion and muscle strength. He demonstrated how the use of the equipment can directly impact functional outcomes. These widely available, inexpensive devices are a game changer in the delivery of rehabilitation services.
Feedback from participants ranged from raves to more raves. TR is hoping to carry the success of this course over more technology oriented education.
